Summary
Two public records, about five minutes: match the brand to its legal entity through the unified social credit code, then read what the travel agency licence actually authorises.

Five Minutes Is Enough for a First Check
Most travellers vet a China tour operator by reading reviews. Reviews describe how a trip felt, not whether the company may do the work. Two public records answer the better question: which entity sits behind the brand, and what its licence allows it to sell.
Route One: Match the Legal Entity to Its Credit Code
Ask for two things in writing before any deposit moves:
- The full registered name of the company that will sign your contract and receive payment.
- Its unified social credit code, printed on every Chinese business licence.
Then open China's National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System at gsxt.gov.cn. Confirm three things: the name matches exactly, the status is active rather than revoked, and the address sits in mainland China. If the brand on your invoice never appears as a legal entity, you are looking at a trading name; the explanation of who is licensed to operate your trip covers why that matters.
Route Two: Read the Licence Number and Its Scope
A business licence confirms a company exists; a travel agency licence confirms what it may sell. Chinese agencies are licensed by scope: domestic tourism, outbound tourism and inbound tourism. Ask for the licence number, then ask which scopes it authorises. Receiving overseas visitors falls under the inbound scope, the one that matters when you book from abroad; our piece on what an inbound tourism licence covers goes through the detail, and overseas agencies will find the cooperation terms here.
When a Search Finds Nothing
A blank result is usually one of four things, and only some are warnings:
- You searched the brand rather than the registered name. Ask for the name exactly as it appears on the licence.
- The code was typed with lookalike characters, such as a zero against the letter O. Ask the operator to confirm it in writing.
- A different company is contracting with you, such as an overseas entity. Ask who holds the licence and who receives payment, in writing.
- The record was updated recently and the public listing has not caught up.
What a Five-Minute Check Cannot Tell You
Standing is not performance. Two companies with identical scopes can plan and recover very differently, and no public record captures that. Once the paperwork is clear the remaining questions are operational, set out in how to vet a China tour operator.
Our Own Details, for You to Check
ChinaTravelPlus is delivered by Shenzhen Baochun International Tourism Group, established on 18 January 1996 and registered in Futian District, Shenzhen, with ground teams in Hunan — our deepest base, covering Zhangjiajie, Fenghuang and Changsha — plus Yunnan, Zhejiang and Guangdong. The travel agency licence behind our ground operations is L-GD-CJ00234, approved under Lv Fa [2013] No. 180 and issued by China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism on 30 March 2022, covering domestic, outbound and inbound tourism. The company's business licence carries the credit code 91440300192407197A, and its legal representative is Cao Shaolin. Both checks above can be run on those details.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I verify a Chinese travel agency from outside China?
Yes. The credit system is public and a basic name search needs no account. If it will not load, ask the operator for the licence certificate and credit code in writing.
What is the difference between a business licence and a travel agency licence?
The business licence identifies the legal entity. The travel agency licence authorises tourism business and records the scopes it may trade in.
What if an operator will not share a credit code?
The code is printed on the licence certificate and appears on invoices, so a licensed operator can supply it easily. Reluctance is a signal rather than proof; ask which entity will receive your payment first.
